1: How does the story of Borneo exemplify the idea of ecosystems and the interaction of organisms (specifically the importance of all organisms in that ecosystem)?
-The story of Borneo helps exemplify the idea of ecosystems and the interactions of organism because every animal is part of this community and they serve a purpose. If one of the animals is affected and they killed then a food source for one of the animals is gone and they will suffer and the animal that eat them will suffer so its all a chain. They all serve a purpose.
2: How does the story exemplify how humans (in our attempt to fix one thing), cause unforeseeable problems in ecosystems?
-The story exemplify that with the mosquitoes were affecting and they used DDT and just affected more. This represents any things because we always try to just fix things with using one idea and never looking for more and sometimes that action affects it more and sometimes the problem even becomes more worst.
3: Explain how a toxin in a food web will harm some while killing others- why did the mosquito's and cats die while other things lived? (hint: research bioaccumulation & biomagnification)-I think that it did not affect everyone because as Bioaccumulation has stated if affected one organism but their might not be much Biomagnification as in much increase in the correlation between the food chains in that area. I think that the cats were like the top animal so the key stone animal of the food chain pus it had no predators.
4: Explain why you think DDT has been banned in the U.S. but is still in production and used in countries all over the world.
-I think that it ha been banned in the US because i think we have those resources that can be used for the same purpose as DDT but it is less harmful. I also think because we have a lot of production and animals that it might hurt.
5: If DDT is still being used around the world, but not in the U.S.- are we still exposed to it? (Discuss).
-I think that even if were not directly using the DDT we are still exposed to it because their is many other places in the world that are using them and when the wind pushes it its still in the environment and can still affect us .
6: Do you think scientists should have sprayed the island with DDT? If not, what should they have done about the Malaria issue?
-i think that the scientist should of not spread the island with DDT because first they are an island and if the animal is affected it will be hard to move around and they should of have used something different that is not as bad to the environment and the health of the people
