Whenever we see trees we think of oxygen, the precious oxygen they give off to man kind. They do give us precious oxygen but they are not developing well, researchers from the universities of California and Washington have been studying trees by comparing forest patches. They are studying their development and their life and nutrients they are receiving. What they needed to do was compare the patches withing urban Seattle, urban areas outside the city, and old grown forest and Mount Rainier National Park , measuring temperature and soil nitrogen as a proxy for nutrients. The way they did this was they measured the growth rate of western red cedars by counting tree rings and circumference, and counted seedlings in the tree forest types. They compared the results from earlier papers and found the increased temperatures and nitrogen, not similar from what they expected. From the results they saw that global warming is clearly impacting the growth and reproduction of a variety f tree species in many ways. This has happened for a long period of time but this was just published.
I chose this article because it took me some time to understand the title without even looking at the article. When i saw it i was wondering how trees cam grow fast but they cant have their roots. So i read it because the title was confusing and trees are very important as well. This article was interesting because first i learned what the title meant. It is important to ave trees but it is important for them to be the correct type that have nutrients and can actually benefit us. This reminds me of many movie that i have watched because their is so many where the worlds oxygen ends and we move to another planet and its hard for us to survive.
The nest steps can be defined as hard because theirs is so many problems with hard solutions. It is so easy to damage the planet but very hard to fix it again so we need to take action. We all don't have the solutions but by composting in out own home to make the soil more rich with nutrients would be very helpful. Cleaning the streets as well.
