Recycle City
Recycle City is divided into 4 quadrants- all of the parts of the city are clickable! You
will need to explore the city to complete this quest.
1. Name ways that each of these items can be reused, instead of throwing them away.
• Cardboard box-They can be recycled to make to paper or other products to remake cardboard
• Plastic Milk Carton-They can be recycled to make toys, bottles and pipes
• Glass Jar- Recycled into new glass containers
• Newspaper- It can be recycled into paper
2) Where in Recycle City can you get information on what to do with leftover cleaning
products? Why is it important that we not throw chemicals into the regular trash?
-You can find the information about the left over cleaning products in the Household Harzadous waste center. It is important to not throw chemicals in regular trash because they can relase toxic gases which can explode when combined.
3) Visit some houses in Recycle City. Make a list of 4 hazardous wastes that can be
found in those homes.
* Refrigerators
* Oil based paint
* Glues and cements
* Photographic chemicals
4) Cruise around Recycle City and write down 2 tips you can used to reduce pollution
and waste that come from cars.
Two tips in which you can reduce pollution from cars is using electric cars and using used oil.
5) Gas stations aren’t just places to fill up the tank. Can you find 2 things that Shaq at the
Recycle City Gas Station does to help the environment?
-Recycle used oil-Hurts the environment less
-Use the right octane level-This causes to let the car run longer and pollute less.
6) Identify 2 recycling activities that Recycle City students use to help raise money for
class projects.
-The students gather money through paper drives, and they also collect cans and sell them and use the money for the computers in the library.

Game.” Carefully read the instructions before playing the game. The overall idea is
that you start with a dumpy, dirty city, and you will start recycling programs that will
improve your city.
15) Your goal is to reduce the amount of paper going into the landfill, while spending as
little money as possible. Determine what combination of programs will cause the
greatest effect for the least cost.
Take notes: When big money is used on a program it might affect in some way but not entirely. Whn you use different combinations more impact is done and less money is used.
16) What combination of programs did you use? Check the bar graph, how many tons
of paper and cardboard did you end up with? How much did it cost?
-I used Grass Cycling, Home Composting, Pay as you throw, Business recycling, Business composting, and Home yard trimming pickups.
-I ended up with 60 tons
-It costed nothing
17) Now try to reduce the overall waste in the city. You cannot spend more than
$200,000. Try different combinations of programs to determine which combinations will
get you the most benefits for your money. Which combinations of programs did you use?

-I used everything except the reuse center. I recovered 78 tons of waste and it only costed 185,00.
