Carbon cycle & Greenhouse effect
Influential Greenhouse Gases: For each of the following, list WHAT they are, WHERE they are found and HOW they affect climate
Carbon Dioxide (CO2):
-Carbon dioxide is produced when an organic carbon compound (such as wood) or fossilized organic matter, (such as coal, oil, or natural gas) is burned in the presence of oxygen.
Methane (CH4):
- Methane is released when organic matter decomposes in low oxygen environments. Natural sources include wetlands, swamps and marshes, termites, and oceans
Nitrous Oxide (N2O):
-"laughing gas"
-Nitrous oxide is broken down in the atmosphere by chemical reactions driven by sunlight
Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6):
-SF6 is human-made, and the primary user of SF6 is the electric power industry.
-significant long-term impact on global climate change
Draw a diagram and label to EXPLAIN the greenhouse effect: Explain how the Carbon Cycle is involved in global climate change:
What are Carbon SOURCES and SINKS?
-
How does deforestation increase the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere? Explain.
-plants use the co2 to build food from organic matter which is then used by other organisms. trees are a big part of the process and when they are cut down less carbon dioxide is absorbed and is trapped in the atmosphere.
How do the oceans absorb excess CO2 from the atmosphere and how does this affect the oceans?
-when the water and carbon dioxide collide the water turns acidic which affect animals and organisms living in the waters.
Explain how the industrial revolution has increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
-since the industrial revolution more fossil fuels have been burned releasing more carbon dioxide in the air.the pollution and release has increased 38%.
According to the graph, which country is the biggest contributor to global carbon emissions worldwide?
-Us is the biggest contributor

the carbon cycle is involved because when too much carbon is released in the atmosphere a lot radiation come in but not enough goes out which is the cause of global warming.
