Communities Guided Reading
1: What is ecology?
-The study of our house so the study of earth
2: What is BBECPO? (Define each)
-B: Biosphere
-B: Biome
-E: Ecosystem
-C: Community
-P: Population
-O: Organism
3: What is a community?
- When their is an area and the species that are in that area are determined and what interactions they have
4: What is species composition?
-Counting and specifying the organism or living series in a area such as trees and analyzing them
5: What is species diversity (biodiversity)? Where is the greatest species diversity?
-Whats the total amount of animals their is in a area and all the different types their is in an area they can get of some same type of organism such as the fungi
6: Explain the example of symbiosis with Leaf Cutter Ants and the fungus and bacteria on the
ant.
-The ants cut these leaves and they feed it to a fungus and the fungus then breaks it down and produces a sugar that the ants eat and its a cycle and they both benefit
7: What is an exponential growth pattern? Explain.
-As all animals start to grow they will reach their exponential growth
8: What are the limiting factors to growth. Explain both density dependent and density
independent factors.
-Some would be running out of food
-space
-diseases
-Density dependent: based on the size of the population, ex: a lack of food
Density independent are those that are not related to population size but relatedto chance,
9: What is a logistic growth pattern? Explain.
-Its when a organism grows in a pattern until it reaches its carrying capacity
10: What is the carrying capacity? Define.
-Maximum number of individuals that an area can support
11: What is an age-structure diagram (population pyramid)? How it is set-up? What does it
tell you?
-It shows guys on one side and girls on the other, it is set u to tell you the number of guys and girls at a specific age range and as well it tells us that logistic groeth for a age range
12: What is the shape of a population pyramid of a young population (exponential growth)?
What is the shape of a population of a stable population (logistic growth)?
-the shape for the young population us shorter and not a pyramid anymore and for the stable is more longer and its the period of the baby boom !
-The study of our house so the study of earth
